Smart city topics are new ground for Waterfront Toronto and can be as complex as they are exciting. We want to open up the conversation about opportunities and risks associated with subjects such as digital governance, data privacy, and intellectual property, especially as these subjects pertain to the MIDP. The Civic Labs provide a forum for subject matter experts, advocates, and leaders from governments, academic institutions, the private and non-profit sectors to share advice with Waterfront Toronto about issues related to potential digital elements in the planning of Quayside.
To assist with the civic literacy and support a meaningful public discussion about the potential digital future of Quayside, we have also created a series of Info Sheets:
- Info Sheet 1 explains the ways and places that tech can influence a city
- Info Sheet 2 focuses on digital laws and regulations.
- Info Sheet 3 looks at data collection and use.
So far we’ve hosted three Civic Labs. Each meeting is livestreamed to our Facebook page and archived on our YouTube channel. Check out the summaries below and watch the archived livestreams.
